Rudbeckia subtomentosa- Sweet Black-eyed Susan

Sweet Black-eyed Susan is the tallest of our native Rudbeckias, with strong stalks that reach heights of 4-6ft and draw the eye upward to its branching clusters of large and abundant blooms. 3inches in diameter, these ray-and-disk flowers call to pollinators far and wide with their bright yellow petals and dark, reddish-brown central cones. A hardy and adaptable plant, it can tolerate poor soil conditions, intense heat, and occasional periods of drought. The epithet of its common name refers to the subtle, sweet smell its leaves give off. Deer-resistant. Deadhead to prolong bloom-time.
