Black-eyed Susan is a beloved Illinois native that grows quickly and easily in a range of garden conditions. It is a biennial that self-sows such that it will reappear year after year, though not always in the same place. Its cheerful yellow, daisy-like flowers last for weeks or even months on end, bringing a steady parade of different types of pollinators. Its foliage hosts the larvae of both theWavy-Lined Emerald moth and the Silvery Checkerspot butterfly, and its seedheads feed songbirds through the fall and winter. Deer resistant and moderately tolerant of drought and salt.A nice addition to cut flower arrangements. Deadhead to prolong the bloom time even further.
