Prairie Phlox brightens up the sunny garden in spring and early summer with clusters of fragrant, star-shaped flowers that range in color from rich purple to pale pink or almost white. Each flower’s five, broad petals fuse at its center to form a tube-like structure that attracts long-tongued pollinators like butterflies, moths and hummingbirds. This species of phlox is easy to grow and tolerates all but the wettest soils. Its downy and somewhat aromatic foliage make it less susceptible to rabbit and deer grazing.
