Packera aureus- Golden Ragwort

Golden Ragwort’s exuberant floral display stuns for several weeks in late spring when branched stalks rise up above shiny, heart-shaped basal leaves that are purple on their undersides. Each stalk boasts numerous bright yellow, daisy-like flowers whose nectar and pollen attract small native bees. This versatile and easily grown plant does well in all light conditions so long as the soil stays moist. Spreads via rhizome and seed to form large colonies and functions well as a groundcover. Should not be planted next to timid neighbors in the garden. Alkaloids in its leaves make it entirely immune to rabbit and deer grazing but also toxic to dogs.
