Mitella diphylla-Bishop's Cap

Bishop’s Cap’s unique floral display delights those who make the effort to examine it up close. The tiny white flowers, spaced apart on an upright stem, have deeply fringed petals with a striking geometric arrangement reminiscent of snowflakes. Small native bees pollinate these blooms, which develop into cup-shaped seed capsules that rely on falling rain drops to splash in and propel the seeds outward. Attractive heart shaped leaves stay low to the ground, while one pair of sessile leaves emerge halfway up each flower stalk. Plant along pathways and borders so that its delicate features can be appreciated.
