Prairie Alumroot stands out in the garden with its dense, rounded rosette of attractive foliage. It boasts textured, heart-shaped leaves with curly edges that can exhibit a range of colors from deep green to bronze or reddish hues, depending on the growing conditions. In late spring to early summer, slender stems rise high above the foliage and bear delicate, bell-shaped flowers that attract a wide range of pollinators including hummingbirds and small native bees. In shady areas its blooms will present with a pale green or creamy white color while with more sun they can take on yellow or reddish hues. Foliage turns shades of red and yellow in the fall, providing late-season visual interest.
