Euphorbia corollata- Flowering Spurge

Flowering Spurge delights with clouds of small but impactful, long-lasting blooms atop upright, branching stems. In late spring through the summer and even into the fall, it showcases clusters of what appear to be small white flowers that create an attractive, airy effect. The overall look is such that it is sometimes referred to as “native baby’s breath”. A closer look reveals that what appear to be creamy white petals are actually leaf bracts surrounding the tiny yellow flower at their center. These alluring bracts remain even after each female flower puts forth a spherical pod containing three seeds. Numerous bird species feed on these seeds, while its leaves are entirely impervious to rabbit and deer grazing due to the toxic sap contained within. Its narrow, lance-shaped leaves are a rich green color and provide a lushbackdrop for its striking inflorescences. The leaves and stems take on an attractive reddish color in the fall. Drought-tolerant once established.
