Silky Wild Rye is a cool season woodland grass that greens up early in the spring before many plants start looking their best. It develops the long and nodding inflorescence that is typical of most Elymus species, a bristly raceme of spikelets that start out green and turn a shimmering tan color after wind-pollination. Can look a bit tired mid-summer or in too much sun, but peps up when the weather turns cool again. Host plant to several moth species.
