Brown Fox Sedge earns its name in midsummer when its dense, elongated seed heads mature to a rich shade of golden brown and resemble the bushy tail of a fox. Its arching, fine-textured leaves provide habitat for fauna and play host to several species of skipper. This wetland sedge is perfect in rain gardens but is remarkably versatile and can thrive in soils with less moisture as long as it’s not allowed to dry out completely. A vigorous grower, it can colonize an area fairly quickly.
