Carex jamesii- James's Sedge

James’s Sedge is native to moist woodlands and will shine in your shade gardenas long as soil conditions are not dry. This cool season grower greens up early in the spring, with narrow, grass-like leaves that form a soft tuft. Inconspicuous flowers and rounded seeds stay below the height of the leaves. Its foliage provides food fornumerous insectspecies and it seeds are eaten by birds. Spreading gently via rhizome and seed, it will slowly form a colony but is not considered aggressive. It fills in nicely under taller plantings and can function as a ground cover under trees where turf grass often fails. Semi-evergreen, James’s Sedge willmaintain its color and form well into the winter. Tolerates occasional flooding.
