Thimbleweed’s white, 1in wide blooms each rise on a slender, unbranched stem above dark green, deeply lobed foliage that grows thick and low along the ground. Each flower has five white sepals around a green and yellow center, which develops into an attractive cylindrical seedhead that resembles a thimble, hence its common name. As it matures, the seedhead becomes fluffy and bursts open to release shiny black seeds that are dispersed by the wind.Seedheads remain on the plant through fall and into the winter, providing multi-season interest as well as late season food for birds.Drought-tolerant once established. Resistant to deer and rabbit grazing.
