Solidago speciosa-Showy Goldenrod

Showy Goldenrod is indeed a particularly showy and attractive goldenrod, with large dense clusters of radiant yellow flowers crowning the tops of tall upright stems, which often have their own reddish color. It tends to bloom slightly later than other goldenrod species, which are already late-blooming, providing abundant and valuable resources to pollinators long after most other flowers have withered. Pollinators flock to these late-season flowers and the resulting seeds provide a valuable food source for songbirds through the winter. Like all goldenrods, its pollen is heavy, sticky and cannot be wind-borne, so it is not to blame for seasonal allergies. Does not spread aggressively like many in its genus.
