Silene stellata-Starry Campion

Starry Campion boasts whorls of lance-shaped leaves at the base of tall stalks that bear panicles of alluring white flowers. What may at first glance seem to be dozens of petals are actually just five petals, each divided into up to 12 narrow lobes, which give the blooms a frilly, delicate appearance. While occasionally visited by bees and butterflies, these blooms are pollinated primarily by moths. Ants and other crawling insects are deterred by the sticky hairs present near the base of each flower. Presents best in partial shade and drier soil. Generally unbothered by pests and disease. Deadhead to prevent self-seeding.
