Iris versicolor- Northern Blue Flag

Northern Blue Flag makes a beautiful addition to rain gardens or pond edges, with showy, elegant blooms of blue to violet that boast alluring white and yellow centers. Hummingbirds are attracted to these flowers along with butterflies, bees and other pollinators. Its pale green leaves have a bluish tint, stand straight up or archgently, and are commonly described as “sword-shaped”: tall and narrow with pointed tips.In the wild this native is found growing in marshes and along stream banks, as it tolerates flooding and shallow standing water. Its fibrous root system makes it useful for erosion control. Will form a dense colony when happy. Deadhead to prolong bloom time.
