Wood’s Sedge is renowned for its attractive tufts of fine-textured, blue-green foliage that slowly spread to form a dense, weed-suppressing groundcover. Its tolerance of light foot-traffic and mowing makes it a promising candidate for sod replacement. It is a woodland sedge that does well under trees and in other shaded garden areas but can also thrive in sunny spots if there is adequate moisture. In spring, yellow-green floralspikelets rise above its foliage and slowly mature into delicate, straw-colored seed clusters that provide food for songbirds. Additionally, it is a host plant for various species of skipper and moth larvae.
