Carex cristatella- Crested Oval Sedge

Crested Oval Sedge is a wonderful addition to gardens with moist soil and can even thrive in shallow standing water. Its narrow, arching leaves green up early in the spring and support a remarkable array of insect life, from grasshoppers and leaf-cutters to the larvae of numerous species of butterfly, moth, and skipper. Its seeds are arranged in spiky round balls that cluster at the top of stalks and provide food for songbirds. This clump-forming sedge does well in all light conditions as long as the soil remains moist.
