Ohio Spiderwort’s1in flowers cluster at the top of upright stems, each with three, rounded, violet petals and six bright yellow anthers. The flowers mature progressively, blooming a few at a time over a period of about six weeks. They are known to open with the first rays of morning sun and close when the sun is stronger, staying open longer on cloudy days. This native has long, narrow, blue-green leaves that tend to arch downward and also fold slightly inward along the central vein. Hardy and adaptable to a wide range of soil types. A prolific self-seeder when conditions are right so use with caution in small spaces. The entire plant is reportedly edible.
