Common Ironweed is a true ecological powerhouse, with flowers that attract an impressive number of pollinators and foliage that is known to host the larvae of more than TWENTY SPECIES of moth and butterfly, including the American Lady. With a maximum height of six feet, its bold vertical presence is crowned by fluffy looking clusters of vibrant purple flowers. Its upright, unbranched stems have narrow, lance-shaped leaves with serrated edges and a prominent central vein. Plants will remain shorter if soil is less moist or if they are cut back in the late spring. Will tolerate periods of flooding. Deadhead if self-seeding is unwanted. Deer resistant
